I want to understand why everything has to be so wrapped up in politics. Okay I know that it has to do with money. I really just want to vent about that kinda shit right now.
Most of you know that I own a massage college and clinic here in Oklahoma City. It's really an awesome thing what I have been able to do in my life with both of these responsibilities.
I did not start my college or my massage practice based on money. I became a bodyworker for flexible hours and a work schedule that would aid me to be a better mother.
I had no idea that learning about touch and how to help other people heal would help my family be healthier. When I went to massage school it was to have a good job with good hours. I was wrong as it helped me be a better person and a better parent.
So after being in the field for over 10 years I wanted to help people find that better person inside of himself or herself and I knew that would be through teaching them about massage. In my mind opening a massage college was the way to teach everyone the best ways on how to touch and heal.
So now to the politics of the whole thing as I just wanted to teach massage and show my students how to make money and have fun. I do not teach anything that I have not done.
My college is very different from the other massage colleges in Oklahoma. My program is much shorter with longer days and it does not cost near as much. That way the student is not eaten up with debt when they are done learning.
Our education system in the US is so over rated. I mean it's so about money. You know most of the stuff completed in order to own a college was all based on money. Sure I had to provide some information and follow some laws, but as long as I pay the state fees and set-up bank accounts than I can own a college.
I think the kicker came from getting set-up with federal funding. Someone from my school has to do home study courses (that cost money) and we have to be in business for at least two years. Someone has to attend a seminar that is a week long and cost money.
After all these items are done and of course paying all fees for a year based on what we made in tuition for the 2 years. We are then accredited and the cause and effect is geared towards the student buying into this accredited stuff.
Wack! It is so crazy!
My sister went and got a masters degree and she was so pist off by the time she realized what had happened. She told me that she wanted to take the degree and burn it cause it really did not do what she thought that it would.
Now I believe that she was over reacting and of course it looks good because she completed the programs and it will work to her advantage when she is ready for it to happen.
Which is my point…
It does not matter about accredited this or that. It's truly about what you want to do with the knowledge that you gain. I know that every college in the US has something to teach and I believe that there are colleges set-up with just money in mind.
I also believe that there are colleges set-up with the desire to just truly teach. The US would be such a smart place if higher education were just higher education.
